It’s never too early to begin learning and modelling signs with your baby. Research suggests that most babies will produce their first sign in response at approx. 8-10 months of age...a couple of months earlier than the average hearing baby produces their first real spoken word. Our program welcomes participation of hearing parents with hearing infants aged between 4-15 months of age. Even little ones with a few spoken words can benefit from signing as it can more rapidly extend their vocabulary and assist their speech development.

You are more than welcome to bring your infant to “First Signs” but please note we have no crèche facilities and you should bring toys and a mat for you child.

The WA Deaf Society requires parents in the program to fully supervise their own children at all times.
